How To Fix A Leaky Shut Off Valve

In this video we teach you how to fix a leaky shutoff valve. Many shut off valve connected to faucets, or located under your sink will leak when they are shut off. Typically the valves leak at the valve stem.

Many times it’s a simple fix to fix a leaky shutoff valve and only requires you to tighten the packing nut on the leaky valve to fix the leak. To tighten the packing nut all you need to do is use a crescent wrench or pliers to tighten the outer nut on the shut off valve to fix the leak. Typically it takes between an 1/16th of a turn and a 1/3 of a turn to fix the leaky valve.

This will work for most style ball valves that are commonly found under sinks, connect to faucets or that are connected to water lines for appliances. If you need to replace your shut off valve I recommend these valves below.
